Transfer contacts to your personal address book with vCards
When you search for contact information, it is not always immediately available. Either access permissions prevent you from using certain tools or the contacts are in your colleagues’ personal address books.

Important company contacts are often not available
Despite all the digitalization, business is still conducted between people. In our daily work, it often happens that:
- a contact you met at an event yesterday is needed quickly
- a contact is needed from a colleague who spoke to the managing director of company XY yesterday
It is certainly the case for almost all of us that one or other piece of information about a person is missing or is not available in the right application. Then you change the application, do cumbersome “copy-paste” actions and at some point you have the telephone number or e-mail address where you need it. It is time-consuming and inconvenient to find the missing contact information in a roundabout way.
Many users maintain their contacts either in their personal address book on their cell phone and/or perhaps also in the CRM system. Nevertheless, it often happens that you don’t have the contact you need right now. Maybe it’s because you’re not an account manager and don’t have access to the CRM tool. Or perhaps it’s because important company contacts are in a colleague’s personal address book.
vCards provide a good, simple solution.
Typical use of vCards
vCards are sometimes neglected, although vCards can be used to solve many everyday problems.
A vCard (electronic business card) is a file in vCard format (.vcf) that is used to store and exchange contact information.
vCards allow you to store and organize contacts with all relevant information such as name, address, position, phone number, email address and more.
vCards can be used with various programs, such as Outlook.
The main use case is certainly the exchange of contact information. Some users include “their” vCard in their signature or pass on the vCard information as a QR code on their classic business card.

Having contacts available in just a few steps
All of this prompted us to integrate a vCard functionality into our cloud application my-IAM PeopleConnect. Because with PeopleConnect, not only internal employees, but also all external contacts can be accessed in a global directory.
Downloading a contact is very easy with PeopleConnect:
- search for a contact,
- view and
- export as vCard
You then load the vCard into your personal address book on your cell phone or into your personal contacts in Outlook. There are many ways to use it.

How vCards work in PeopleConnect
my-IAM PeopleConnect is an app for the user for all types of identities, such as

- employees,
- customers,
- partners or
- suppliers.
It brings together all company contacts and makes them available for our daily work. For example, PeopleConnect brings together the contacts for use and maintenance from M365, the CRM system or the ITSM system. Searching and finding is quick and, depending on the configuration, a user can maintain and update certain contacts.
The application is provided as a Teams, Outlook, mobile app or via the web.
The backend service my-IAM RealIdentity contains the “brainpower” of PeopleConnect. This is where the identities, contacts and properties are combined and made available to the my-IAM PeopleConnect app.
The vCard function extends the use of identities and contacts beyond third-party systems to which there is no direct connection.
The data is stored securely within my-IAM. Each customer receives their own instance within the Azure infrastructure in Germany. The installation and integration of my-IAM PeopleConnect is quick, as it is a native SaaS/cloud application.
